1976 there was no Dock/ Plack Application launcher available. That was up for the NeXT guy to invent until 1988. The Neptune File Manager was more like Norton Commander, not window-based like Apple Lisa & Macintosh but the Alto developers came up with POP-Up menus.

The Xerox Alto is capable of real WYSIWYG with Bravo offers and professional text editing functions comparable with Linotype/ Monotype systems. The machine comes with fonts pre-installed like classic Times Roman and the beautiful simple Helvetica by Max Miedlinger. Typography works well even without icon menus, and output on Xerox Laser printers is possible thanks to a wide selection of bitmap fonts. Even EMOJI’s & Dingbats fonts are supported.

The first GUI solution for digital arts was former mentioned SuperPaint by Richard Shoup and the technology is available as Draw for the Alto Computer. When Steve Jobs saw what Xerox developed at PARC he wanted Apple Computers to be as simple & powerful like that…
