There was no manual program to adjust the shutter or exposure settings like professional photographers used to work with, so it wasn’t only the low resolution of 640×480 pixel images that made the QuickTake an expensive toy.

Back then we’ve been working with Freehand 5.0 to make results in best quality and almost resolution independent. Prior to the Aldus acquisition by Adobe in 1994, Freehand 4 was vector illustration tool developed by Altsys and distributed by Aldus Corporation. The QuickTake artwork on the other (, real) free hand, is made with this free and open-source software.
